Benefits of EMDR Intensives
Benefits of EMDR Intensives

You’ve been carrying around heavy emotional baggage for way too long, and you’re ready to work through it and let it go. On the one hand, you’re ready to do the deep dive and do the work, but you don’t have the time or energy to commit to weekly therapy sessions. Between work, family, and those never-ending responsibilities, committing to weekly sessions seems almost impossible.
As an Orlando EMDR Therapist, I am offering one, two, and three-day EMDR Intensives. Intensives have been a complete game changer for my busy clients. My clients appreciate the ability to set aside a few dedicated days for their healing without having to squeeze EMDR Therapy into their hectic schedules.
In my last blog post, I shared What to Expect in an EMDR Intensive and in this post, I am sharing the many benefits of an EMDR Intensive.
1. Saves time.
In weekly EMDR Therapy, sessions are 50-minutes in length. During this 50-minute session, you and your therapist need time to settle into the session. The client needs time to update the therapist on recent events that have occurred, as well as any changes in symptoms. This could take 15 minutes. After EMDR processing, the therapist needs time to close down the processing and utilize resources to ensure the client is calm and ready to transition out of the session. There also needs to be time left for new insights and awareness garnered during EMDR processing. This could take between 10 and 15 minutes. This limits the amount of time for EMDR processing to 20-30 minutes per session, which is about two hours per month. A one-day intensive offers six hours of EMDR Therapy in one day. It would take three months to accomplish this in weekly sessions!
2. Saves money.
The time saved in EMDR intensives translates to significant cost savings. Rather than paying for weekly therapy sessions spanning over six months, you pay for six hours of immersive therapy for one day of intensive therapy.
3. More focused therapy.
Similar to how EMDR Intensives save time, an EMDR Intensive provides more focused time with your EMDR Therapist. Let’s face it, life happens. We are moving along and out of nowhere life whacks us and smacks us right in the face. When these things happen (because they do), EMDR therapy often gets pushed to the back burner. It’s difficult to process the past when there is a big stressor staring you in the face. With an EMDR Intensive, time is dedicated to working on a particular issue over the course of one to three days. The focus does not get derailed, so more focused work happens meaning, you get through EMDR Therapy sooner.
4. Fast Relief.
EMDR therapy offers relief for many symptoms including PTSD, anxiety, depression, chronic pain, emotional overwhelm, phobias, and panic attacks. Because of the reasons mentioned above, EMDR Intensives offer faster results. The intensive format offers an immersive EMDR experience, which provides relief from symptoms sooner than weekly therapy.
5. Less Time off Work.
With an EMDR Intensive, you will carve out between one and three days for your healing. Weekly therapy sessions require you to take time each week which can interrupt your work day. It’s already hard enough to commit to working through your past traumas. Trying to heal your trauma while maintaining your work schedule and other commitments can be daunting.
6. Eliminates Out-of-State Limitations.
EMDR intensives present a unique advantage by allowing individuals to work with a therapist who resides in another state. In most cases, state laws restrict seeing a therapist in a different state.
