I know firsthand how debilitating anxiety and trauma can be. There was a point in my life when anxiety would take over my thoughts and body like a runaway freight train. I was saddled with despair.
Having been in and out of therapy trying to find relief, I finally found a trauma therapist that worked with my nervous system. Somatic therapy and EMDR therapy changed my life, y’all.
Sensorimotor Psychotherapy
Once I became a therapist, I wanted to learn how to work with the nervous system, so I could help my clients find relief as I did.
I poured myself into Sensorimotor Psychotherapy (SP) and learned how to use a bottom-up approach to working with trauma. After seven years of training, I became a Certified Sensorimotor Psychotherapist.
Sensorimotor Psychotherapy is a body-oriented talking therapy that works with the body’s nervous system to regulate arousal. SP explores how all three, the body, emotions, and thoughts are organized around distressful events. SP typically uses the body as the entry point in healing the traumatic past.
EMDR Therapy
Because I love evidence-based modalities and I love to learn, I decided to continue my training as a trauma therapist and embark on the EMDR journey.
People (myself included) have made profound shifts in a relatively short timeframe using EMDR Therapy.
EMDR Therapy is a very powerful tool for treating trauma. Once I received my basic training, I wanted to feel confident that I was using EMDR safely and effectively with my clients, so I kept on going in my training endeavors and eventually became a Certified EMDR Therapist and an EMDRIA-Approved Consultant.
As an EMDR Consultant, it is now it is my mission to make sure my therapists utilize EMDR therapy safely and effectively.
Qualified Supervisor
As I have continued my career and expanded into owning a group practice, I have found that I love love love working with therapists. Maybe it’s the teacher in me (I was an educator earlier on) or perhaps it’s that I can have a positive impact on more people, but I have found that one of my greatest joys is growing and developing awesome therapists.
I get to positively influence therapists as both an EMDR Consultant and a Qualified Supervisor.
