Orlando Self-Care Spotlight: Orlando Power Yoga

By: Lauran Hahn, LMHC

I’m thrilled you’re back to read another Orlando self-care spotlight! In our very first blog post, Orlando Therapist Shares Importance of Self-Care, I explain the value of having a self-care plan and share with you how having a self-care plan helps bring out the best version of you.

In this blog series, I am highlighting Orlando businesses that are awesome self-care spots. The businesses chosen to be featured focus on nurturing mind, body, and spirit. The recommendations come from local Orlando therapists and other professionals in the wellness field.

This week Mindful Living Counseling Orlando has the pleasure of highlighting another local business that nurtures mind, body, and spirit - Orlando Power Yoga.

We are grateful for these business owners because they have dedicated their lives to nurturing the mind, body, and spirit of humans. Because of their work, they are helping the people in our Orlando community live healthier, happier, and more fulfilling lives.

Because healing inspires healing, the work these local business owners do extends well beyond our Orlando community and continues to positively impact people across the planet. And for that, the team at Mindful Living Counselor Orlando wants to say, “Thank You!”

Orlando Power Yoga (OPY) has been nominated to be featured by multiple therapists and other contributors to this blog series on self-care. I was so excited when Kelly Senn, the owner of Orlando Power Yoga, agreed to be featured.

First of all, OPY has been my yoga studio of choice over the past 12 years. As soon as I walk in the door, my mind and body relax. For the next hour, my full attention goes to what is happening on my yoga mat, which gives me a mental vacation from the hustle and bustle of my busy life.

The yoga teachers are kind and welcoming, greeting long-timers and newcomers into the studio. Every class is different, but typically, we are gently guided into the practice using breath, movement, and music. As everyone warms up, the practice picks up the pace a little bit. Eventually, it feels like I’m dancing on my yoga mat. The yoga teacher is guiding me, yet the music and my breath are moving my body. It is pure bliss.

About Orlando Power Yoga

Therapy Orlando. Orlando Therapist Self Care Spotlight Orlando Power Yoga.

In 2009 Orlando Power Yoga opened its doors on South Street with the hopes of getting at least ten people in a class to be able to cover rent. Today, Orlando Power Yoga has opened two more locations, has over ten classes a day, and maintained a hot power yoga studio with good vibes from teachers, students, and family.

With three different studios offering hot yoga, Bikram, and warm yin, Orlando Power Yoga is a local favorite for all things self-care! It is a great place to move your body early in the morning or right after work and you don’t have to worry about bringing anything. Orlando Power yoga offers a mat rental for $3, bottled water for $3, and a Towel rental for $7!

What is the most frequent compliment you get about your space for self-care?

We are most frequently complimented on our teachers being the best. I invest a lot of time and provide feedback to them. I also hear that our studio has helped students through tough times and bad habits.

Our teachers have worked hard before, during, and after the covid pandemic. Each of them supported Orlando Power Yoga, and each other and continue the strong ethical background of yoga. I am grateful to have such a great team!

What is your favorite yoga class for self-care?

Depends - sometimes a very hot, sweaty high intense class gets me out of my head. Other times I enjoy just a meditation class to calm me down!

Why is your business a great self-care spot for people with anxiety?

Orlando Power Yoga gets the body moving, there is no judgment and we make it fun. During some classes, the teacher just tells funny stories or says what the class might be thinking. This gets everyone in a happy group setting!

When is the most chill time to visit?

The earliest class because it starts at 6:30 am, 6:45 am, or 7 am. There is less traffic! Click here to view the class schedules.

What is your favorite mental health quote, tidbit, or mantra?

“How you do one thing is how you do everything.”

A Budokan yoga teacher said it to me years ago and I see it is true in everything we do.

What is your personal favorite self-care activity?

When I am not doing yoga, I enjoy getting a massage or seeing my friends!
