DR. GULNORA HUNDLEY, NEUROFEEDBACK THERAPIST IN ORLANDO

How, specifically, does your treatment help people struggling with anxiety?

To treat symptoms of anxiety I utilize NeurOptimal Neurofeedback training, also known as EEG biofeedback, which is based on five decades of research into determining the impact of modifying brain electrical activity. To learn more about Neurofeedback, click here.

What is the most effective way you help anxious people feel calm?

Anxiety is an inefficient and energy consuming response to our moment-to-moment challenges. Training with NeurOptimal is a learning task. During a session the brain uses the feedback of it’s electrical activity, which it receives many times each second, to make itself work more effectively. When the brain detects a habitual response it will shift out of that patterning, and gradually learn to optimize itself. This positive change communicates that the brain is working hard to move into a state of regulation — calm, alert, present — which it is designed to do when not in a state of threat. It trains your brain to be more flexible and resilient. What type of transformation do you see in your clients that struggle with anxiety?

What type of transformation do you see in your clients that struggle with anxiety?

When clients are trained with NeurOptimal they may experience the following:

  1. Feeling calmer

  2. Increased mental clarity

  3. Dropping away of fears

  4. More appropriate and regulated response to stressful situations

  5. Feeling “lighter” and improved mood

  6. Increased motivation and ability to accomplish tasks

How long, on average, does it take for people that struggle with anxiety to feel better?

Study results of 1.2 million neurofeedback sessions indicate significant improvement was seen after 11–20 sessions. Neurofeedback patients, on average, train for 15–25 sessions.

What motivated you to help people in Orlando that struggle with anxiety?

I see how anxiety impacts my clients’ relationships, their performance at work or school and their ability to maintain a normal daily life. Anxiety disorders are identified as the most commonly diagnosed disorder (12%; 36.3 million adults over a 12-month period), followed by mood disorders. Anxiety was also reported to likely occur in childhood, thereby negatively influencing overall development, including social and interpersonal abilities, achievement in school and cognitive development. I have noticed that sometimes talk therapy by itself is not enough to reduce symptoms of anxiety.  Medications may just treat the symptoms and do not correct the source of the problem in the brain. Therefore, I utilize NeurOptimal as a drug-free, non-invasive, non-addictive brain training system that can help reduce tension and increase a sense of calmness.
